Gamers Outreach welcomes Hermitcraft’s “Scar” to Board of Directors

General News | April 12, 2025

We have some big news from Day 2 of the Gamers For Giving 2025 LAN Party! Gamers Outreach has proudly welcomed Scar to our Board of Directors.

Gamers Outreach programs have grown exponentially over recent years. The team manages a presence across more than 400 hospitals, and our services are benefitting thousands of families every day.

Huzzah, Hermits!

The Hermitcraft community is one of the biggest reasons for this growth. In late 2022, 25 Hermitcraft community members hosted one of the most successful charity streams to date benefitting Gamers Outreach. It ended up being a four-hour marathon of broadcasts filled with creative minigames and programming. Thousands watched and contributed over $439,000 in donations.

The goal was a modest $25,000, and $30,000 of that $439,000 came before their event even started. The output was simply unheard of.

Not to be outdone, the “Hermits” showed up big at the GFG 2024 LAN Party. Their extraordinary efforts at last year’s GFG raised a whopping $840,000, nearly doubling the output of their 2022 stream.

Hermitcraft has contributed over 310 GO Karts to date. That’s an estimated 899,000 gameplay experiences annually for children in hospitals needing the power of play. Hermitcraft has raised over $1.2 million for us, and they continue to be one of the most inspiring groups we have the honor of calling partners.

Welcome, Scar!

Speaking of honor, Scar has been way more honorable than Mufasa’s brother of the same name. His presence in the Hermitcraft community is irreplaceable. As one of the group’s event organizers, Scar has gone above and beyond for both Hermitcraft and Gamers Outreach. He has helped the community fundraise more than 100 GO Karts and participated in a bunch of hospital visits over the years.

In addition to being a respected Hermit, Scar now holds a seat on the Gamers Outreach board, giving him a vote that influences the direction of our foundation.

“Scar’s enthusiasm for our cause has made a tremendous difference and his own experiences having gone through hospitalization have given a lived perspective for how video games can improve health care environments,” said Zach Wigal, Founder and CEO of Gamers Outreach. “We’re excited he’s lent his voice to our work and we look forward to collaborating in the years ahead to make an impact for families receiving care.”

We at Gamers Outreach remain in uncontainable excitement with our partnership with Hermitcraft and Scar. With the Hermits by his side, Scar is going to do some great things as a part of the Gamers Outreach Board, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
